Cervical Disc Herniation Rehabilitation

What is Cervical Disc Herniation?

Cervical disc herniation occurs when one of the discs in the neck region bulges or ruptures, pressing on nearby nerves or the spinal cord.
This can lead to neck pain, stiffness, shoulder pain, or radiating symptoms into the arm and hand. It often affects posture, movement, and daily activities.

Symptoms

  • Neck pain or stiffness
  • Pain radiating to the shoulder, arm, or upper back
  • Numbness or tingling in the arm or fingers
  • Muscle weakness in the upper limbs
  • Headaches or dizziness

Causes of Cervical Disc Herniation

  • Poor posture or long hours on computers/mobile devices
  • Repetitive neck movements or heavy lifting
  • Sudden trauma such as whiplash
  • Weak cervical muscles and poor ergonomics
  • Natural aging and disc degeneration

Diagnosis

Diagnosis includes:

  • Posture and movement assessment
  • Neurological testing for reflexes, strength, and sensation
  • MRI or CT scans done externally to confirm herniation

Treatment & Rehabilitation Approach

At AwaHope, our approach combines advanced physiotherapy technologies, manual therapy, and targeted exercise programs
to relieve nerve pressure, reduce inflammation, and restore neck movement safely and effectively.

Treatment Methods

1. Manual Therapy

  • Gentle cervical mobilization to reduce pressure on nerves
  • Soft tissue release for neck and shoulder tension
  • Myofascial release to improve mobility

2. Mechanical & Traction Therapy

Cervical traction gently decompresses the spine, reduces nerve irritation, and relieves symptoms such as radiating arm pain.

3. BTL TECAR Therapy

Provides deep heat to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing in cervical tissues.

4. BTL Electrotherapy

Relieves nerve pain, reduces muscle spasms, and enhances muscle activation in the neck and upper back.

5. BTL Ultrasound Therapy

Supports deep tissue healing, reduces inflammation, and improves soft tissue flexibility.

6. Dry Needling

Targets trigger points in the neck and shoulder muscles, reducing tension and improving range of motion.

7. Heat & Cold Therapy

  • Heat relaxes tight cervical muscles
  • Cold reduces inflammation and nerve sensitivity

8. Exercise Therapy & Posture Correction

Programs include:

  • Neck stabilization exercises
  • Postural correction and ergonomic training
  • Shoulder and upper back strengthening
  • Mobility and stretching routines

Recovery & Expectations

Most patients experience relief within the first few sessions. Full recovery depends on severity but is strongly supported
by consistent physiotherapy, posture correction, and strengthening exercises.
